Background

Jamsheed was trained at the leading commercial, banking and finance set, 3 Verulam Buildings, in London and in the International Arbitration Group of the magic-circle international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, in Paris.

He has taught law at the Sorbonne Law School and has worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. He now teaches arbitration law in the Law Practitioners’ Vocational Course and in the LLM (Business Law) of the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas.

As a barrister at Peeroo Chambers, Jamsheed has worked on numerous high-profile matters, often relating to or within the African continent, in various sectors and areas including infrastructure financing and building, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, technology products, E-commerce, fisheries, hotel and tourism, mining, energy and petroleum derivatives. 

He heads our International Arbitration section and is familiar with most leading international arbitration rules. He is also a member of the Task Force on the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards of the ICC Commision on Arbitration and ADR and a Vice-President of the MARC Advisory Board.

Jamsheed is fully bilingual (English and French) and splits his time between his practice at the leading London (UK) set, 36 Stone, The 36 Group, and his practice at Peeroo Chambers.

Arbitration

• Jointly-nominated President of an ICC Arbitral Tribunal in London-seated arbitration of a dispute relating to an international licensing contract in the IT and telecommunications sector
• Instructed as Counsel in an appeal before the Privy Council in relation to the setting aside of a MARC international award
  
• Co-counsel in a MARC arbitration over a dispute relating to a consultation contract in an African country
  
• Acting on several international commercial and investment arbitrations in the International Arbitration Group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris
• Counsel successfully resisting setting-aside proceedings entered before the Supreme Court in relation to a MARC international award
• Co-counsel in ICC arbitration on an international dispute relating to security services in an African country
• Counsel successfully representing an operator in the international fisheries sector in one of the first international arbitrations under the LCIA-MIAC Rules

• Advising a major group in sub-saharan African on redundancy provisions related to the Covid-19 pandemic
• Advising a company registered in Mauritius and listed on the New York Stock Exchange on corporate governance issues
  
• Acting under the instructions of the HMRC (UK) as Expert Witness on Mauritian Tax Law and Trusts in several appeal proceedings relating to the international taxation of trusts set up under the “Round the World Scheme”
• Advising on a merger of an Indian company and a Mauritian company in the oil and gas construction and infrastructure sector
• Co-counsel for an international investor seeking recovery of investments and assets from a complex “Paradise Papers” scheme
• Advising on a number of international contracts for the procurement of maritime security and for the hire of seafarers
